Must-Visit Places Around Pemuteran You Shouldn’t Miss

Sumberkima Bay: Calm Waters & Hidden Mangroves

Just a short drive from Pemuteran, Sumberkima Bay quickly became one of my favorite places to slow down. I’ve gone stand-up paddling (SUP) here several times, gliding over crystal-clear water surrounded by mangroves and distant mountains. The water is incredibly calm, making it perfect even for beginners.

As I paddled, I could easily spot colorful fish, sea urchins, and sometimes even eels and sea snakes beneath the board. The bay also offers snorkeling trips by boat to Gili Putih sandbar, where you can float in calm waters, explore an underwater art gallery, and even take part in coral planting for reef restoration. It’s peaceful, meaningful, and surprisingly fun.

Menjangan Island: Snorkeling That Feels Effortless

A short boat ride from Pemuteran brings you to Menjangan Island, one of the best snorkeling and diving spots in Bali. Clear water, healthy reefs, and abundant marine life are guaranteed. If you’re lucky, you might spot turtles or even reef sharks—but even without them, the underwater world here is spectacular.

What I love most about snorkeling at Menjangan is how easy it feels. The gentle current lets you simply float along the island’s reef, barely using any energy. On my last visit, I snorkeled for nearly three hours, stopping only for a beachside lunch provided by our guide. While we ate, a few deer—the island’s namesake—wandered down to graze near the shore. It was quiet, magical, and unforgettable.

West Bali National Park: A Journey Into the Wild

Driving into West Bali National Park feels like entering another world. As the road pulls you away from the main highway, everything becomes quieter. No traffic noise—just the sounds of the forest, birds calling, insects and leaves moving in the wind.

At first, you’ll see familiar wildlife: butterflies, birds, and large lizards. But as we drove deeper, I finally saw an animal I had only known from childhood stories—the lutung, or long-tailed black monkey Trachypithecus auratus. With their long tails, dark fur, and expressive eyes, they looked almost mythical. Seeing them in the wild brought back memories of bedtime stories my father used to tell me.

Standing there, watching them move freely in their protected home, I felt deeply grateful that this park exists—to preserve nature, wildlife, and stories that connect generations.

Exploring Pemuteran and its surrounding areas isn’t about ticking off famous landmarks. It’s about quiet adventures, meaningful encounters, and reconnecting with nature—both above and below the water.
